Wasdale,wild camp March/April 2018

So as sometimes is the way of these things Plan A got changed to plan B which then 30 mins after setting off was changed again ! due to the strong constant winds that we had on Saturday, plan C it was then

Even though the Scotland trip had fallen through ive always loved the view i get as you descend of the Birker fell road and drop down onto the Stunning Eskdale side of this big moor

We met up on the side of Wastwater and the whole loch was a mass of "White horses"...it was a windy day already. So much so we ended up camped between Seatallan and Haycock, behind a small outcrop we discovered

Plan B was a two night trip going up to Haycock round to Red pike then down and over the Screes to return to the cars, parked on Wastwater

Even after we had climbed only a little hieght the wind was showing itself that it was going to be a struggle today, the gusts were not huge, maybe 50's ,but the constants were 25-35 mph

We chatted as we headed up and out of the valley and after a while we decided to stay lower down..the winds and windchill made even the eyes smart so when we found a spot more sheltered we pitched up, still 500m up...so not to bad

Lee recently repurchased another Trailstar and we were both suprised as the difference in colour,Ron thinks mines from an older batch as mine is only 2 yrs old being a replacment for my original purchased in late 2010

Tea was another excellent, tasty meal from the people at Basecamp foods

Scafell

The wind died off later in the evening but was still swirling around  with a nasty bite to it,Lees water had some ice bits inside the next mornings so i guess we got a few degrees of frost over night

Dawn was a bit muted but looked good still with the cloud still being pushed over head quickly..can see it better on the video

We made our way up to Haycock and then headed North following the fence and wall, then had a nice short walk out to Steeples summit and back

A zoomed in picture of Gable so quality not so good

Lee and has beautiful Tramplite pack taking in the views

" The chair " on the south end of Red pikes summit...the best place to sit and enjoy the mighty view

Lee taking in the view of the Scafells from Red pike

As the forecast was for heavy snow Lee was keen to back over to his side of the A66 and as it was Oscars 11th birthday i also decided to head home

Looking at the webcam and judging by the weather at home the next day i was glad we shortened it to a one night trip, thanks for looking and safe travels Peter

                         Day 1 was 7.53k and 623m Ascent
                         Day 2 was 12.5k and 700m Ascent
